v0.6.8 QA sweep and startup fix

2026-07-18

Everdeep had a proper .6.8 pass today. The main thing was giving runs more ways to change shape instead of just adding another small stat bump.

Six relics went into the pool. Seam Walker lets you turn a roll through an enemy into a counter hit. Drowned Clock turns a clean dodge through incoming fire into FLOW. Cinder Witness can call in a short-lived boon when a burning enemy dies. Trinity Vow pays off a fast kill across all three enemy types. Ashen Crown gives a cleared hostile room one random temporary boon. Shadow Tax rewards six clean kills with a heart, then makes you earn the streak again if you get hit.

That brings the pool to 88 relics. The important part is that they were added without breaking the weapon rule the game is built around: sword for brutes, boomerang for wisps, slingshot for spitters. The relic tables, lore, icons, and save order were all kept together, so old saves do not get scrambled.

Combat got a small but needed sound pass too. A sword hit, a boomerang hit, and a slingshot hit no longer all land with the same noise. They already play differently, so now they sound different when they connect.

I also eased up on the rune-plate hunt. The plates are still hidden. You still need to look for them. Their faint shimmer now starts a little closer to four units out instead of 3.6, so a careful sweep of a room has a fair chance of finding one. Keys are still scarce at one in ten floor rooms. Essence is still tied to depth, with the extra reward reserved for a new best run.

Then I ran the Windows build through QA. That caught one real problem: an old saved fullscreen setting could ask Windows for exclusive fullscreen before Everdeep had made its window, and the game could appear not to open. Old fullscreen saves now come up borderless instead. I checked the title screen, menus, settings, a fresh first room, attacking, swapping weapons, and rolling. The build finished with zero errors and the runtime log stayed clean.

No new gameplay footage came out of this pass, so there are no fake screenshots here. This is the work that actually landed in .6.8.
